New owner for Wilhelmshaven refinery
The American conglomerate, ConocoPhillips, publicly announced the takeover of the Wilhelmshavener Raffineriegesellschaft mbH. The conglomerate’s vice president, Jim Nokes, announced that they had successfully concluded negotiations with the previous British owner, Louis Dreyfus Energy Holdings Ltd., with the final transaction taking place in the first half of 2006. The good news for Wilhelmshaven is that ConocoPhillips also intend to invest considerably in the site.
Following British company INEOS’s May 2005 announcement of its intention to expand here, this is now the second foreign company within a year to decide in favour of large investments in Wilhelmshaven; doubtless an indication of the trust placed in the north German industry region, ChemCoast.
